AIGA's Stand on Spec work vs. Pro-Bono

There have been some recent comments on Twitter about the Portland Chapter of AIGA’s RFP for a Pro-bono website. Most of these comments center around the AIGA Position on Spec Work (http://www.aiga.org/content.cfm/position-spec-work).

As the local Sponsorship Chair, I would like to address the concerns I have seen, with the caveat that this is my opinion and doesn’t represent a collective view from the organization, local or national.

AIGA Portland Redesign RFP

in

It’s about time! AIGAPortland.org could seriously use a redesign. And we’re looking for an interactive partner to make it happen. The new design will be personable, interactive and fully-integrated in order to keep up with Portland’s booming creative community. Not to mention
the technology that just keeps ramping up. AIGA Portland is looking for a design firm with
some big guns, major chops and a strong sense of giving back to the creative community (i.e.
pro-bono). If that sounds like you, we would love to talk.

What would you like to see AIGA Portland do?

in

As the new incoming President of AIGA President for 2010, I have a questions all the Portland designers out there: What would you like to see AIGA Portland do?

From our round table a few months ago we heard people requesting more crafts and government involvement. We heard that we're doing well with sustainability (SHIFT) and design inspiration (Designspeaks). That said, turn out at the round table was small - so weigh in and post a comment below and let us know what you would like to see us do.

Studio Tour: An inside look at creative powerhouse Nemo Design

Perhaps you’ve been drooling over their work for Nike, HP and other kick-ass clients. Or maybe you just dig really cool spaces. Either way, now is your opportunity to join us for a studio tour of Nemo Design, July 14th.

This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited to 25 people (and 10 of those are reserved for students). If you want in, RSVP via email to education@portland.aiga.org with your full name (students must include the name of their school) and whether or not you are an AIGA member.

And don’t forget to stop by dMob afterward (place TBD)!
